[The chef shakes his head at that - because those words fitted together in that sentence make little sense to him, even if he's long since given up on ever dating his friend. He picks up his drink again, sipping it gingerly (and still making a face) before he replies]

[Come on, Sanji. He's not exactly subtle about the whole "liking guys" thing on his end.]

I know we went on a date once, but it wasn't like that. There was nothing romantic between us at all.

[A snort] I know that. [He takes another sip, a larger one that briefly sets his vision swimming]

[Richard takes a sip of his own, grimaces briefly (though he tries to hide it), then swallows.]

And here I thought it was because you enjoyed my company.

Heh, I guess that's another good reason. [He says while slouching his face against his raised palm. Down goes another gulp. Briefly, he considers chasing the taste down with something sweeter, but eventually decides against it with a scowl that comes out of nowhere. Hell knows what state he'll be in by the time he finishes this drink.]

[This is probably the dumbest idea Richard has ever had, but what the hell. He's just going to gulp down the rest of his drink in the hopes of avoiding the worst of the taste.

IT'S NOT VERY EFFECTIVE. At least he's making a very entertaining face right now.]

["Unfortunately", he says. If he had a piece of paper, Sanji would have tossed it at the man's head by now, if only because he doesn't trust himself to kick in a straight line anymore. But he scowls and mutters something under his breath before, on a whim, takes the plunge himself - and drinks the rest of his ale in one go.

When he slams the glass down after he's finished, it's hard enough to shoot a sliver of a crack near the bottom. Whoops.] Ugh.

[That strikes Richard as ridiculously hilarious for some reason, making him think that the best course of action would be to applaud. So he does. It makes sense in his mind, okay. Anyone who can chug that stuff like that deserves a hand.]

Bravo! Shall I order us another round?

I'm not drinking another round of that shit!

[Did you say something, Sanji? Because Richard is already in the process of ordering another round.]

Richard! [Who knew Sanji's voice could reach that octave?]

[Excellent, something that can be used as a chaser because he's not going to gulp this glass of Romulan ale. No, he's going to be smart and just sip at it, eying the orange drinks when they're placed on the table.]

I don't think I've ordered one of these before. Should I worry about what will happen if I take too big a sip?

The only thing you'll need to worry about is wanting to steal mine. [He says it with a clear note of pride in his voice, eagerly taking a large gulp of his. The taste of alcohol is almost completely masked by the other, sweeter ingredients, and especially after what he just drank, Sanji throws caution to the wind and downs half of his in a matter of seconds.]

[Richard just watches Sanji's face as he drinks it; then, after a quick sniff of his own - hmm, he can't even smell the alcohol in it - he decides to follow suit and take a good-sized gulp.

Well, Sanji is certainly right about him wanting to steal his. His own glass isn't going to last him nearly long enough.

... except then he has to pause, blinking owlishly as the room suddenly spins just a bit. Huh. That's exciting.]

[He sets the glass down far more gently than the last with a satisfied sigh, glancing up at Richard, and.... hooo, he recognizes that look. A sharp smirk briefly sets itself on his features]

You still with me?

[It takes him a second to even realize that Sanji is addressing him, so occupied is he with the interesting way the walls seem to be rippling. He's pretty sure he's never seen them do THAT before.]

I'm starting to wonder that myself.
