[And it's good that he has some time to get Richard's gift all squared away. Once he's satisfied, Asbel waits for his friend to arrive. At the knock on the door, he opens it up with a smile on his face.]
Actually, I came up with this one all on my own. I'll just be a sec.
[He turns the handle on the door and opens it up, half of him practically disappearing as he leans in to grab something.]
All right, here we go. [Asbel reaches down and picks up a large box with holes cut into the side. The box wiggles a bit in his arms, so he carries it carefully before setting it on the bed beside his friend.]
[... the box is wiggling. The box is wiggling, and it has holes in it. This can only mean one thing in Richard's mind, and suddenly that bark from before makes so much more sense. He already knows what he's going to find inside even before he takes off the lid, but that doesn't mean he can't still pretend to look surprised.
... actually, if he gets a face full of puppy, he probably WILL be a bit surprised.]
[WET TONGUE. WET TONGUE ALL OVER HIS FACE WHAT DO. Richard has never really interacted much with dogs before, much less puppies, meaning that he's a little startled at first... but when Asbel starts laughing, he can't help it-- he begins to laugh as well, which just serves to make the puppy bark excitedly.]
[It's just too funny to watch. After a minute, Asbel stops laughing enough to reach out and pet the puppy's back, soothing him down enough so he'll stop pouncing Richard so much.]
[Aww, but Richard kind of liked the puppy kisses. Okay, so they're a little stinky, but the puppy itself is absolutely adorable and he just wants to keep petting it forever.]
He's perfect. Thank you, Asbel... this is the best present anyone has ever given me.
[He's clearly touched, and it shows. This isn't just some obligatory gift, it's something that came from Asbel's heart, which makes it worth that much more to Richard.]
[That gives him pause, and he looks down at the puppy. He's not exactly the best with names and he knows it, but more than that, there's a sense that this is something he can't mess up. It's the puppy's NAME. He has to get this right and pick something fitting, but what? Oh, he knows.]

[Now he's just trolling.]

[Your trolling is ineffective.]

Right now? I suppose I could make some time...

[He has noticed that his dress sense seems to be a bit more on the fancy side than the majority of residents here... is that a bad thing?]

You're a king after all, your clothes are supposed to be like that.

Perhaps a discussion about a shopping trip is in order once I get there. Now that I think about it, you could use a few new outfits as well.
[RUN, ASBEL, RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN.]
But that can wait until after I've met these roommates of yours.

[RUNNING.]
Right, we've got plenty of time.

I'll be there shortly.
[And sure enough, in about 20 minutes there will be a tap-tap-tap on the door!]

See you soon.
[And it's good that he has some time to get Richard's gift all squared away. Once he's satisfied, Asbel waits for his friend to arrive. At the knock on the door, he opens it up with a smile on his face.]
Hey, there you are.

[Teasing, of course... or is he? With Richard, it's honestly hard to tell sometimes. THAT'S WHAT MAKES HIS TROLLING SO EFFECTIVE.]

Go ahead and sit wherever you'd like. [As he says this, Asbel is already strolling for his closet.]

I'm not sure whether I should ask if Sophie had a hand in this or not.

Open it up.

But all the same, as soon as Richard lifts the box lid, he is indeed going to get a face full of corgi puppy. Tiny, floppy eared, fluffy corgi puppy.
And there is going to be a lot of laughing from Asbel.]

Well, what do you think?

You're welcome! I'm really glad you like him.
[Asbel is grinning from ear to ear.] You get to name him too.

... Sir Finnegan.
[He turns to Asbel with a smile.]
