Eh. Something spooked you is all, I think.

[He wants to know, man.]

Man, you just had a moment, okay? Just acted all scared and like you didn't know me.

Flashback, maybe. You got over it.

[That's enough to jog his memory to what he THOUGHT he was seeing that day, and he shakes his head slowly, raising a hand to cover his face. "Flashback" sounds like a pretty good way to describe it.]

I'm sorry you had to deal with that, I really am.

[There's a pause as he takes a deep breath. If it happened once, it could always happen again, and he'd rather NOT freak Isamu out next time.]

I was... reminded of things I didn't want to remember.

I told you it doesn't matter.

[He shrugs lightly.]

You got over it.

But if it happens again...

I'll do the same thing.

It's not like it sends you on a killing spree.

[That response causes Richard to inhale sharply, biting down on his lip.]

... it did before.

[In a sense. There was an outside influence that's no longer present, but he's not sure that makes him feel that much better.]

[Isamu frowns.]

While you were possessed or after?

While.

[Muzzy with fever though his mind is, he's pretty sure he can't remember ever explaining to Isamu just how that whole thing happened in the first place.]

... I suppose I owe you an explanation for that entire situation, don't I?

Not really. [He shrugs.] Unless you think it'd be good for me to know.

You deserve at least that much. [For putting up with him and his trolling habits, his inability to open up to others, his nightmares and his strange behavior, everything.

He takes a deep breath before continuing, because even with his illness making him more willing to talk than he is normally, this still isn't something he likes to discuss.]

My father had a younger brother, Archduke Cerdic-- my uncle. Due to his royal blood, he was given prestige, power, and wealth from the day of his birth... he had everything he could possibly have needed, but even that was not enough for him. What he desired most was to be king.

Sounds like a pretty classic story.

[Richard had just better not wear himself out too much or upset himself while telling it.]

So it's the same in your world as well...?

[It's not a huge surprise, but still disappointing.]

Well, there isn't anything equivalent to a king in Japan anymore. That's not how the country's run.

But it's in human nature to want power like that. Plenty of old stories have similar themes.

Human nature... perhaps it is. All I know is that my uncle would stop at nothing until both my father and I were dead.

Clearly you aren't dead, at least. So something foiled that up.

And if I told you that something was Lambda?

I wouldn't be at all surprised.

[He makes an amused sound, though it quickly trails off into coughing. It's a moment more before he recovers enough to continue.]

I do owe him my life for it, though. By parasitizing my body, he saved me from dying of poison, and in exchange he got the chance to continue living.

But does it bother you? What he did?

[Richard has to think about this for a moment. In a way, it had been almost nice at times to have someone who truly understood his feelings. But that... isn't the way most people would feel, is it?]

... sometimes, yet at the same time... he understood me better than anyone else.

You know. Back in the passageways of Amala, back in the world we came from after the Conceptions... all that stuff I did, I didn't regret any of it.

Not then, anyway.

But you regret it now?

...Maybe a little, yeah.
