[It certainly has been a while since Richard last laughed and meant it. He can't deny that it feels good to relax and just let himself go like this, especially with everything that's been going on lately. It's nice.

After a few moments more of laughing, he quiets down and just leans forward to bump his forehead against Isamu's, crusade of manliness apparently forgotten for the moment.]

Thank you. I really don't know what I would do without you.

[Isamu pats the top of the blond's head, easily allowing the affection.]

The feeling is mutual, you know.

[And Richard's eyes go wide for a brief moment, breath catching in his throat. Those are words he's wanted to hear his entire life-- that he's important, that he's needed, not as the prince or the king but just as HIMSELF. The fact that they're coming from Isamu of all people just makes them that much more powerful, because he knows how much Isamu hates admitting that he needs anyone other than himself.

He can't help it: trying to be masculine be damned, he's going to tug Isamu into a tight hug, touched by that admission.]

Heh... Don't act like it's a surprise or anything. I've said embarrassing things like this before.

[Richard definitely misses them, if his reluctance to let go is any indication.]

No, it isn't that. It's just... I've wanted to hear someone say that to me for my entire life. I wanted to know that I mattered to someone because of who I was, not what I was.

Geez, man... of course you do.

And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. You had other friends before me and there's no way I believe it isn't the same for them.

[He shakes his head.] You never give yourself enough credit.

I'm sure you're right. You always are about this kind of thing.

[He smiles a little against Isamu's hair.]

But you are the first person who has ever put it into words.

[Oh, sure, people have called him a friend and told him he was important, but no one has ever said they NEEDED him before. It's really a sort of wonderful feeling.]

[He gives Richard a couple pats on the back.]

[Now he laughs, just quietly.]

I'm glad I met you, even if the feeling wasn't mutual at first.

Hey, same here. Who knows who I'd have been stuck with otherwise, if anyone.

Maybe I'd have gone off to live in the woods somewhere.

In the woods? You wouldn't be able to last a day out there before you came back inside complaining of the cold and the bugs.

Hey, I could totally manage the woods. I have better survival skills than you're giving me credit for.

[This face, Isamu. Just. This face.]

It's true! I totally watched enough nature documentaries when I was a kid.

And that makes you an authority on wilderness survival?

An authority, no. But I think I'd do alright.

[Richard just starts laughing again...

... until he's interrupted by his stomach growling rather loudly. Whoops.]

[Without missing a beat, Isamu nudges the tray toward him.]

I'm still not sure what I did to deserve breakfast in bed, considering this is your anniversary rather than mine.

[But he'll take his plate gratefully and actually - gasp! - start eating some of the crepe.]

[Isamu grins as Richard begins eating again.]

I told you - it would feel lame sitting in bed and eating it myself.

You mean to say that my company is just to keep this from being 'lame'?

[He's teasing.]

Basically, yeah.

How very cruel of you.

[Not gonna stop eating that crepe, though. Well. Not for a few more bites, at least.]

I'm blunt because I care.

[He'd better eat the whole thing. Isamu won't take it back otherwise.]

[Well then, he'll just be getting his hair ruffled for his trouble, with Richard grinning innocently the entire time.]
