[At first, the journal seems to have been left open by accident, perhaps knocked open by some errant passerby, as the only thing visible is what looks to be a ceiling. Certainly nothing remarkable, in any case.

However, it isn't long before the sound of a bell jingling can be heard over the journals, followed almost immediately by a surprised and dismayed squawk of protest, then by Richard's laughter.]

What are you-- Oh come on. I am not wearing this. [There’s further jingling as the subject of Richard’s tormenting speaks up.]

Just as I thought-- it suits you perfectly. Purple really is your color.

There are nicer collars out there, you know. Ones that don’t make noise.

And if I said the noise was the point?

[More jingling as the collar is tugged at, but not removed.] You want to slowly drive yourself mad?

I want to be able to know where you are. You’re far too quiet when you’re around the house.

Me? Quiet? Pfft. You mean you can’t just follow my constant complaining?

I suppose I could always give you more to complain about instead…

You’re already doing that, so I lose either way.

[He laughs again.] Then I see no reason to object to this.

[Mission accomplished, Richard will spend the rest of the day tidying up around the house and running a few errands. Those who pay attention might notice that there's something slightly... off about him, though. At home, he very nearly trips over the cat and accidentally bumps his shin against the coffee table at one point (which anyone in the house will be made aware of when he yelps); at the store, he stands there staring at the ingredient lists on food items far longer than most people would.

It's a definite aberration for the usually elegant and graceful king, but one he'll try to shrug off if asked about.]

Was I not meant to see this? [Oh dear, she didn't mean to spy on them or anything like that.] I'm sorry, though I'm very thankful for being able to see two friends enjoying each others company.

[Trying to get around Richard now.]

He's the only one enjoying this, okay!

[And just casually keeping himself between Isamu and the journal.]

Don't let his response fool you-- he enjoys my company far more than he lets on. He simply doesn't like admitting to it in front of others.

[She's a little worried when Isamu doesn't seem to be enjoying himself, but Richard's explanation soon puts her completely at ease.]

I see, so Mister Richard's friend is that sort of person. He pretends that he isn't having fun, but really he is only shy!

Don't say it like that! That's not it at all!

[As his cheeks go a little pink.]

It isn't?

[He sees that blush, but he won't be mean enough to comment on it.]

Really, it isn't? [There are plenty of people like that in Paris, so she thought perhaps Isamu was the same.] Then I'm sorry... But to go back to an earlier subject for a moment, pink suits you rather well too!

[She's not being mean! She's only making an observation!]

It does not!

[That was a bit of a squeal.]

I could add a pink bow right behind the bell.

[Because a pink bow would go so well with a purple collar with spikes on it.]

Please don't be so modest, I really do believe pink would be a good colour for you. [As for the bow-] That's why I think the pink bow would be a very good idea! Perhaps you could even take the bell, loop some pink ribbon through it and just have the bell tied up with a bow like that?

[She can see something like that looking very pretty!]

No! No pink bows!

We could even tie your hair up with a matching ribbon. You'd be the very picture of elegance.

[He gives his friend's ponytail a playful tug as he says this, smiling away.]

I think it would suit you perfectly.

Oh! I have some hair ribbons that you can use if you need them! They're yellow, but I think yellow and pink go together rather well.

Why are we even discussing this? This is not a thing that's happening.

[Excuse Isamu as he now attempts to flee the room.]

[Richard may be thin, but there's a lot of wiry strength hidden in those arms.

Arms that will now be wrapping themselves around Isamu's waist to keep him from fleeing.]

Not even if I agreed to wear the same thing?

[Ooh, she understands now. Isamu totally wants to wear all these ribbons and bells, but he's really is just too shy to do so by himself! Well, that makes sense.]

I'll wear the same thing as well! That way all of us can match and no one has to feel left out for wearing something else.

What part of "no" isn't registering here?

[Struggling!]

[And holding on!]

We could be just like a performance group.

[It's kind of a fun idea when you think about it that way.]

Isamu, you've mentioned singing groups from your world that all wear matching costumes. Why don't we do something like that?

[GASP. That's right, the performers at the Chattes Noires would all wear similar outfits for their group revues!]

We could! It would be just like a performance group from a theatre! [HOW EXCITING. Erica's volume control might be a little off as she pushes her face into the journal.] Please let me take part with you! If Isamu is going to be singing then perhaps there could be dancing as well...?!

I don't sing! Stop getting her hopes up!

[Shoving. At. Richard.]

No bows. None of this!

[Wow, SOMEONE is boring. Richard likes the way Erica thinks.]

Perhaps we could even put on a show for the rest of the village. We could organize an entire day of performances by the residents here and invite everyone to participate. Surely we aren't the only ones here with talent... it would just be a matter of finding those who want to share their skills with others.

[Oh Richard, you're speaking her language right now.]

I'm sure we aren't! There must be lots of people around who want to show off what they can do, like Isamu and his singing. [She's somehow latched onto the idea of Isamu singing. Even though he's said he doesn't sing. Sorry Isamu.] If lots of people were interested, then everyone could put together their own revue... And anyone would be free to stop by to enjoy the entertainment and to cheer on the people they know. Ah, and there could be snacks and drinks served too!

[Snacks are good. Also serving food during the performances would make it even more like the theatre Erica knows back home. Now if only there was a certain ticket taker around- Oh!]

We could make tickets that people could bring along so they can see the performances!

[Alright, that's it.

Isamu makes an indignant noise and floods the whole area in a bright light, hoping to use it as an opportunity to escape.]

[That actually is enough to get Richard to let go with a yelp and move his hands up to cover his eyes against that unexpected light.

If Isamu wants to get away, this is the perfect chance for it.]

[Oh dear. She should have pulled her face away from the journal sooner to avoid the sudden light from nowhere, but nope, she's still pushed up way too close to it. Erica drops the journal with a shriek, letting it fall to the floor as she rubs her eyes.

Where did that light come from? Is this what they mean when they say your life flashes before your eyes?? If so, she was expecting the light to last for a lot longer...]
