[Richard is up early this morning, out and about before most of the rest of the household is even awake. He's not about to let his odd sensitivity to any sort of wind stop him from getting things done-- instead, he simply bundles himself up until he looks more like a walking pile of coats and scarves than anything else before making his way in to the center of town for a shopping trip. Of course, the downside of said bundle of outer layers is that it's a bit hard for him to see, meaning that he might occasionally stumble into people or objects before he even realizes it...

His first stop is the grocery store, where he can be found consulting a list and selecting ingredients. Okay, maybe making a black forest cake is a bit ambitious on his end, but he wants to give it a shot anyway. It SOUNDS delicious, if nothing else.

Then he heads to the item store to grab a few more things, even though he'd already picked out his main present some time ago. Perhaps a new toy for Tiger Festival as well...

Of course, then he realizes that his recipe calls for cherry liqueur, which requires a stop by Good Spirits to pick some of that up.

Finally, he heads back home to House 28, where housemates will find him in the kitchen baking something that smells very delicious and very chocolatey. The end result may be a little lopsided and the frosting job definitely leaves something to be desired (maybe he should've whipped that whipped cream a bit more, it seems a little runny), but at least it smells good?]

I just think yelling out the name of an attack lets the enemy know what's coming, and that gives them too much of a chance to prepare a counter.

[Richard's eyebrows go up, and then he smiles again. Yes, Isamu is making excellent progress so far, more than even he'd been expecting.]

You can do whatever you like as long as you don't interrupt your concentration. That is the most important part of using magic-- you need to focus enough to be able to prepare the spell. However, it can make casting difficult if the battle is a particularly hectic one.

Are you sure you can be comparing your magic and this magic so easily?

The source may be different, but the general principles are the same. That's why I've been able to combine Filial magic with my own to create new spells.

[Not that he's had much of a reason to make use of them, but still.]

Man. Progress means I have to figure this whole new thing out.

But it also means you have a much wider range of possibilities open to you.

Why can't anything ever be easy, though? I'm sure there are plenty here who can just hold out their hand and go 'FIRE!' [He holds out his hand as he says this, but nothing happens.] ... And blast someone.

As convenient as that might be, I can also see it causing a considerable amount of trouble. Would you really want to create a ball of fire just by saying the word? You would have to hope that you never talk in your sleep for the sake of everyone around you.

[Smiling, he taps Isamu's palm with a finger.]

Well I mean... That and a little bit of willing it to happen. It would be dumb otherwise.

Have you ever heard of anyone casting spells in their sleep?

I heard from Cheria that Pascal has done that very thing on more than one occasion. She even chanted the entire incantations when she did so.

[Then again, this is also Pascal.]

[Repeating those same thoughts out loud.]

It's still proof that it is in fact possible.

If you aren't sure what step to take next, why not ask the person who taught you about symbology in the first place? Surely they must have some ideas about what to do with your new skills.

... Yeah. I was considering that.

I did manage to teach you how to create more fire, although the results weren't quite what I was expecting.

It's... probably best if I leave that element alone for now.

You were able to create a larger fireball than you did before. I would say that counts as a success by anyone's standards.
